Museum Safari at the Neslon Atkins Museum of Art

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 the third grade went on a field trip to the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art.  We took part in a studio workshop.  When we arrived at the museum we looked at sculptures of animals from Asia, Europe and even Ancient Egypt.  We even saw a real mummy!  After our tour we went back to the studio and created our own animal sculpture.  Take a moment to look at our pictures.

Piano Recital

At Scuola Vita Nuova we have a great appreciation for the arts.  Students have the opportunity to take piano lessons and dance lessons during the school day.  On November 18, 2010 SVN had their annual fall piano recital.  Here is a video of two third grader's performances.

Guided Reading

Part of our reading program at SVN includes guided reading. During our reader's workshop time I pull groups for reading instruction. These groups are designed to address specific skills students need for reading. In this video a group of students are conducting a book talk. The book they are reading is about the Gizmo's. The mother in this story is an inventor. Her inventions cause a lot of problems for the main character Albert.

During reader's workshop we have been focusing on making mental images, predicting, and thinking about our characters.
